Former West Ham United star Carlton Cole has urged the club’s board to award a new contract to manager David Moyes, speaking to TalkSport.

The Scotsman was appointed Hammers boss in December 2019 after Manuel Pellegrini was sacked. Moyes was brought in to save West Ham from relegation and, despite a few hiccups along the way, achieved it.

West Ham are in a good position this season too. Moyes’ men lost their first two games in the league but remain unbeaten since. The Hammers have looked excellent in their last four games, and the manager deserves a lot of credit.

Moyes’ current deal at the London Stadium expires at the end of this season. There have been calls from fans and pundits for West Ham to extend his contract, and Cole backs that idea.

He said: “Since the restart he’s done brilliantly. The players are in form.

“Moyes has pulled it back round and the players look like they’re playing with confidence. They are playing with guile and are doing well under the pressure.

“I think the players are buying into his philosophy now so why not give him a contract that’s going to keep him at the club?

“Then they can plan for next season as well – that’s what a manager needs. That’s what the players need as well. They need direction.”
