Brooks Koepka has taken the first step towards a return to the PGA Tour, formally submitting his application to regain membership. This move comes just months after his high-profile departure from LIV Golf in December.
His return, though, isn’t straightforward. The five-year ban imposed on players who left for LIV Golf in 2022 means he might not be eligible to compete until 2027.
But with ongoing discussions between the tours about potential changes to those sanctions, it’s possible that timeline could shift.
Koepka reapplies for PGA Tour membership: what comes next?

Koepka’s decision to reapply for PGA Tour membership adds another layer to an already complex story.
So, where does he go from here? But the process won’t be quick. Koepka isn’t likely to return in the short term.
The more likely path is that Koepka spends the next year playing events around the world before making a full-time return attempt.
Still, there are plenty of voices around golf who believe his major wins deserve recognition. The PGA Tour’s decision will be closely watched when it comes.
Koepka was putting in the hours during his final LIV season
Koepka’s 2025 campaign with LIV Golf didn’t go as planned, and it might have been a case of him pushing himself too hard. Rick Shiels discussed Koepka’s dedication on The Rick Shiels Golf Show.
“I think with Brooks, this is what I saw on the ground last year, he seemed very frustrated with something. Something was bothering him. And he was trying really, really, really hard to perform out on the golf course,” he said.
“I saw him on multiple occasions throughout the year being the last person to leave the driving range. As I’ve said a million times before, these guys practice like crazy.”
“I really felt like he wasn’t happy with something. He wasn’t happy with his game, he wasn’t happy with his performances, he wasn’t happy with how maybe he was being treated.”
“He was kind of quite quiet last year, quite subdued, didn’t really show a lot of his own personality. We didn’t see the performances out of him out on the golf course that we’ve come to expect from Brooks Koepka.”
