Tom Brady may be enjoying retirement, but even he admits the thought of returning to the NFL crossed his mind, only to be quickly shut down.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion revealed that he explored the idea behind the scenes, sparking curiosity about just how serious a comeback could have been.

What followed was a firm response that closed the door almost immediately.

Tom Brady reveals NFL response after comeback inquiry

Brady opened up about it while discussing whether a return to football was ever on the table.

“I actually have inquired, and they don’t like that idea very much. So I’m going to leave it at that,” Brady said.

He added: “We explored a lot of different things, and I’m very happily retired. Let me just say that, too.”

The admission confirms that the idea was more than just speculation, even if it never reached a serious stage.

It also suggests the league had little appetite for reopening that chapter.

Tom Brady says flag football experience reinforced retirement decision

Tom Brady also pointed to a recent on-field experience as a reminder of why he is content stepping away from the NFL grind.

“I loved being out there playing in the flag game. I loved not getting hit. I’ve got a lot of really fun things I’m involved in,” Brady continued.

“It’s never going to get old throwing passes to incredible athletes on the football field. But if anything, that game reconfirmed to me that I’m very happy in my retirement,” he concluded.

The contrast between competitive play and a more relaxed environment appears to have settled any lingering doubts.

It also highlights how his connection to the game remains strong, just without the physical toll. That clarity is what ultimately defines his current stance.
