Rasmus Hojlund’s move to Napoli was finalised on deadline day after Manchester United agreed to a loan deal.

The pursuit of Benjamin Sesko, who joined in a £66m transfer this summer, meant Rasmus Hojlund slipped further down the pecking order at Manchester United.

As a result, the Dane was excluded from Ruben Amorim’s early-season squads before he transferred to Napoli on deadline day.

The deal includes an obligation for the Italian side to make the move permanent if they qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Before getting started with his new club, though, Hojlund has linked up with the Denmark national team over the international break.

Rasmus Hojlund grabbed goal for Denmark in World Cup qualifying win

Denmark coach Brian Riemer previously expressed optimism about Hojlund’s transfer to Napoli, suggesting it could benefit the striker’s career.

Despite that, the United loanee was not named in the starting line-up for Denmark’s 3-0 victory over Greece in their World Cup qualifier.

Approximately an hour into the game, Hojlund, alongside former United teammate Patrick Dorgu, was subbed on.

The pair linked up well just 17 minutes later, when Dorgu set up Hojlund to add Denmark’s third goal of the evening. The striker was alert and found himself in the right spot to finish off Dorgu’s delivery into the box.

Danish media react to Rasmus Hojlund’s performance

Even in limited minutes, Hojlund managed to make a mark on the game, earning positive reviews from the Danish press.

While Tipsbladet felt he did not play long enough to warrant a full rating, they noted: “Scored his second international goal this year when he sought out the opportunity and was in the right place at the right time. It is important for Riemer and Denmark to get him going.”

Meanwhile, DR gave him a 7 and added: “Great goal by Hojlund on a riposte from the post and lots of good work. Looks promising for the future once he gets going in Napoli.”

Campo highlighted Dorgu’s pace in the lead-up to Hojlund’s goal, saying:

“Greece brought too many people forward, and that leaves big holes in the backcourt, which the lightning-fast Patrick Dorgu exploits. The Greek goalkeeper gets far out before Dorgu dribbles him and finishes towards the box. The attempt goes just wide of the post but falls perfectly to Rasmus Hojlund, who can easily tap the ball in for 0-3.”
