Scottie Scheffler has been nowhere near his absolute best at the RBC Heritage this week.

However, Scheffler is by no means out of the tournament.

He has posted rounds of 68 and 67 during his first two rounds at the RBC Heritage and trails halfway leader Matt Fitzpatrick by seven strokes with 36 holes left to play.

Scheffler has been fairly pedestrian during the first two rounds in pretty much every tournament he has played on the PGA Tour this season, but he has a habit of turning on the gas during the final 36 holes.

The 29-year-old world number one has actually played very well on the whole at the RBC Heritage, but he hasn’t got much out of his rounds so far this week.

Scheffler is a big fan of the changes to the course at the RBC Heritage and if he keeps striking the ball how he has been this week, he may well be right in the mix to win come Sunday afternoon.

What Scottie Scheffler did for the 4th time in 569 PGA Tour rounds at the Heritage

Scheffler carded four birdies and 14 pars during his second round at Harbour Town Links on Friday.

He left plenty of shots out there and missed numerous short-range birdie opportunities.

However, there was one part of his game that was working absolutely perfectly on Hilton Head Island on day two of the Heritage.

The man from Dallas, Texas, was in imperious form with his driver.

Scheffler hit every single fairway during his second round at Harbour Town Links.

That was only the fourth time he has managed that in 569 career rounds on the PGA Tour.

Hitting all 14 fairways at Harbour Town Golf Links is no small feat and the fact that Scheffler was able to do it proves that he is in total control of his golf ball right now.

What has been Scottie Scheffler’s main problem in 2026

Scheffler’s driving hasn’t actually been great this season.

He is ranked 11th in strokes gained off the tee so far this season – not bad on face value, but a big drop-off from last year when he was ranked second in that category.

If truth be known, Scheffler’s biggest problem so far this season has been his iron play.

He has been nowhere near the levels he has set for himself and is ranked 81st in strokes gained approach on the PGA Tour in 2026.

He will need to improve upon that part of his game if he is to start winning consistently once again this season.

However, with his driving seemingly now back in order at the RBC Heritage, it may not be long before Scheffler starts taking out the flagsticks again.
