Ruben Loftus-Cheek is hot property this summer after speculation he will leave Chelsea. Should Tottenham Hotspur consider a move?

Powerhouse midfielder Loftus-Cheek seems to have been around forever at Chelsea, but could his future be with fierce London rivals Tottenham?

The Sun (24/05, page 68) recently reported that the Blues are willing to sell the midfielder to Crystal Palace this summer after he spent the season on loan at Selhurst Park.

And while the report does not suggest whether they would consider letting him head elsewhere, it is difficult to imagine that Chelsea would hold on to Loftus-Cheek if the money was right.

Tottenham are looking to spend in a bid to end their trophy drought after signing up coveted manager Mauricio Pochettino to a new five-year deal.

With Moussa Dembele’s future unclear, Pochettino will be looking for a young, hungry and talented presence in central midfield.

Loftus-Cheek, who has made England’s Russia World Cup squad, ticks all those boxes so could comments from the player’s dad last season give Tottenham a distinct advantage over other clubs?

Loftus-Cheek’s dad Trevor told The Daily Mail his son has been ‘held back’ at Chelsea and suggested he would be better off at Spurs.

“He should have been playing,” Trevor told the Mail midway through last season.

“Everyone behind the scenes was asking: ‘why isn’t he playing?’ If Ruben was playing for Mauricio Pochettino, he’d have 70, 80, 90 first team appearances by now.

“He is like a Rolls Royce. He used to win all of the player of the year awards.”

By far the youngest team in the Premier League, Pochettino’s Spurs side are full of energy and it shows in their play and their results.

The elegant and marauding midfielder fits the profile of player Pochettino likes to work with and he could be in the position to do just that if comments from Loftus-Cheek’s dad are anything to go by.

Spurs might want to get any deal wrapped up soon, though, in case Loftus-Cheek shines at the World Cup and his value rockets.

Dealing with rivals Chelsea would be a rarity for Tottenham, and the big hurdle to any transfer. That isn’t to say Spurs should give up before they start.
