Celtic hammered Hamilton Academical 3-0 at New Douglas Park this afternoon.
Celtic maintained their unbeaten start to the Scottish Premiership season as they beat Hamilton Academical 3-0 at New Douglas Park this afternoon.
The Bhoys beat Partick Thistle 1-0 in midweek to make it 16 wins and one draw from 17 games this season, and it’s now 17 wins after today’s victory.
Celtic’s Stuart Armstrong in action
Brendan Rodgers’ side took the lead just before half time as Leigh Griffiths fired past goalkeeper Gary Woods having been played through on goal, but Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor was sent off shortly after the break to give Hamilton hope.
That hope didn’t last long though, as midfielder Stuart Armstrong unleashed an unstoppable long-range drive into the top corner of the net for 2-0, and Moussa Dembele added a late third to seal the win.
Celtic now head into Christmas sitting 14 points clear of Old Firm rivals Rangers, and look to be coasting towards a sixth straight league title, with Rodgers already closing in on a huge triumph.
Celtic’s Stuart Armstrong shoots at goal
If one player embodies the work done by Rodgers at Celtic, it’s midfielder Armstrong. Unable to nail down a first-team spot under Ronny Deila last season, Armstrong has now become a key player under Rodgers, and his goal today means it’s now seven goals in 15 league appearances this term.
The 24-year-old is finally starting to fulfil his potential under Rodgers, and fans took to Twitter during and after this afternoon’s win to rave about the Scottish playmaker.
Many feel that Armstrong is a hot favourite for the club’s Player of the Year award based on his recent displays, praising him for an outstanding season to date.
Others noted that Armstrong’s marked improvement is down to the work of Rodgers, claiming that the Celtic boss has done an ‘unbelievable’ job with Armstrong, with the man himself look like a completely different player this term.
