Mesut Ozil joined Fenerbahce in January after seven years with Arsenal, and the German playmaker is back to his best after a trademark goal last night.
The 33-year-old was named captain of Fenerbahce in the summer, and Ozil has repaid the favour with some impressive performances for the Turkish Super Lig side.
The midfielder has already bagged six goals in all competitions as well as two assists, yet Ozil’s strike last night might just be his best so far for Fenerbahce.
The former Arsenal star, who started out on the left-wing, scored and assisted in Fenerbahce’s 3-2 loss to Gaziantep, and Ozil’s 30th-minute goal was quite spectacular.
The German made an intelligent run into space to allow Bright Osayi-Samuel to play Ozil through on goal, with the former Arsenal star beating the Gaziantep keeper with his trademark chipped shot.
Indeed, Ozil scored a handful of goals for Arsenal with a similar technique, famously against Liverpool in a hectic 3-3 match at the Emirates Stadium in Arsene Wenger’s final season at the club.
And as you can expect, Arsenal fans on social media were speechless that Ozil had once again pulled off the technique to score another brilliant goal for Fenerbahce.
