Barry Ferguson has slammed suggestions that Rangers should sell Ryan Kent to Leeds United.
The Premier League new boys are said to be fans of the 23-year-old Gers winger.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard confirmed today that the club had rejected a bid from Leeds for Kent.
Previous reports suggested that United were weighing up a £10 million bid, but Ferguson claims that Kent – who cost the Ibrox side £7 million last summer – could very easily be worth double that in the near future.
He told The Record: “All the talk over the last few days has been of a possible bid from Leeds for the 23-year-old and I’ve heard a few folk now saying it might make sense for the club to cash in. But I’d bet my life that Steven Gerrard isn’t one of them.
“Take £10m for Kent and bring in three new players? What planet are these guys on? Rangers would be crazy to even contemplate letting him go at that price because he’s a £20m player in the making and I truly believe he’s ready right now to take his game to another level.”
Is Kent a £20 million player in the making? Well, that’s up for debate.
That’s a huge sum of money and the former Liverpool winger simply isn’t a huge player for Rangers yet.
He has 13 goals and six assists for the Gers across 44 Premiership appearances, which is a decent return, but it isn’t spectacular.
Kent is a very decent player and he’ll only get better, but there’s little evidence that Leeds should stump up £20 million to sign him.
