Arsenal made a massive statement on transfer deadline day by completing the signing of Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid. The Ghanaian is widely regarded as one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the world, and his quality has been evident since his move to the Emirates.

Partey has won the man of the match award in two of his first three starts for Arsenal. The former Atletico Madrid man was arguably the best player on the pitch on Sunday as the Gunners took all three points from Manchester United at Old Trafford.

One of the biggest talking points before the game was the battle between Paul Pogba and Partey. The Frenchman is United’s most expensive midfielder, and on his day, he can change the game almost single-handedly.

Sadly for United fans, Partey outclassed their star player. The Ghanaian was all over the pitch, and provided incredible balance for Arsenal between attack and defence.

Partey’s agent, Jose Daniel Jimenez Pozanco, spoke to FC Inter News last year where he described his client as a similar player to the French World Cup winner, but he claimed that he was better than Pogba.

He said: “A box to box like Pogba. With quality, several goals and more defensive work than the Frenchman. In fact, I tell you this. For me, Thomas is a better player than Pogba. But, being African, he has much less attention from the press than the Manchester United player.”

Partey dominated the game at Old Trafford

Partey had a monstrous game against the Red Devils on Sunday. The 27-year-old won 10 out his 14 duels, maintained 93% passing accuracy, made four tackles, two interceptions and was dribbled past just once in the entire game. (SofaScore)

Pogba, on the other hand, won just four out of his 16 attempted duels. His dribble success rate was just over 33%, and he lost possession 15 times in the game. He committed three fouls, one of which handed Arsenal a penalty which won them the game. (SofaScore)

If that performance at Old Trafford was anything to go by, Partey proved his agent right. He was head and shoulders above Pogba, and Arsenal fans sure are delighted that their side managed to get him this summer.
