Well, for a couple of hours at least.
Spurs hammered Leicester City 3-1 in North London to move into the final Champions League qualification place, one point above Arsenal who visit West Ham United later today.
Son added to Harry Kane’s opener with a swivelled finish in the second half, but his next goal was a thing of sheer beauty.
With his weaker foot, the South Korea international curled past Kasper Schmeichel from outside the box, leaving the Foxes goalkeeper with no chance at all.
Antonio Conte wheeled away in celebration, shaking his hands alas Zinedine Zidane after Gareth Bale’s Champions League final goal against Liverpool in 2018.
In the background, Fabio Paratici, Spurs’ technical director, can be seen standing and applauding with his hands over his head in appreciation for the stunner.
And it was a stunner.
To have the audacity to attempt that with your weaker foot is outrageous and clearly points to the confidence that Son has in his own ability.
To execute it, however, is another thing entirely and no wonder he’s one of Tottenham’s best players.
Prior to today, Spurs had been struggling because Kane – who opened the scoring – and Son couldn’t get into the game for Conte’s outfit.
But this afternoon was an example of how devastating they are, with Son also setting up his teammate’s opener from a corner in the first half.
Now the pressure is entirely on Arsenal ahead of what promises to be a difficult visit to West Ham.
