Villarreal manager Unai Emery will reportedly reject a move to Newcastle United following news that the Toon were in talks with the Spanish coach.
According to BBC Sport this morning, the former Arsenal boss will stay with the La Liga side despite a recent approach from Newcastle to replace Steve Bruce.
As reported by the Atheltic yesterday, Emery was one of two managers on Newcastle’s shortlist as their search for a new manager narrowed. With Eddie Howe the second name on the list.
With Emery a recent UEFA Europa League winner and a figure who has managed some of the biggest clubs in world football, the former PSG boss could have been an ideal candidate for Newcastle.
However, as per BBC Sport’s update this morning, Emery is not keen on the Newcastle project. With the report stating that the Villarreal manager feels there is a lack of a clear vision from the Magpies new owners.
The Toon were bought out by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund last month. And despite becoming one of football’s richest clubs overnight, Newcastle’s new owners are taking their time to hire a new coach to replace Bruce.
Newcastle fans fume at Emery update

Indeed, Emery was a man a majority of Newcastle supporters wanted. And on social media, fans are fuming that the Villarreal manager has seemingly turned down a move to the northeast.
