Chris Sutton has slammed Anthony Gordon for his dive during Newcastle United’s 1-0 win over Brentford on Saturday.

The former Premier League striker labelled Anthony Gordon as ‘the winner of this week’s simulation game’ after he wasn’t happy with his actions against Thomas Frank’s side, as he told 606 on BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

That awarding of a penalty proved to be crucial because it handed the three points to Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United, with Callum Wilson converting from the spot.

During his days at Everton, the all-action winger wasn’t shy to rile up the opposition fans with his antics.

Some might call it ‘clever’ play, but at the end of the day, a dive is a dive.

And for Chris Sutton, he is calling it out like it is, as he wasn’t happy with Gordon’s actions.

Sutton slams Anthony Gordon for diving

“The winner of this week’s simulation game, Anthony Gordon,” said Sutton. “I thought Brentford were on the end of an absolute shocker.

“Anthony Gordon. What on earth are you doing going down easily like that? He is better than that. Newcastle got away with one, even Alan Shearer said ‘the penalty shouldn’t have been awarded’. He knew what he was doing.”

Every team has divers

Fans can complain about players x, y and z going to ground easily or winning penalties when there is minimal contact.

But in truth, every team has those types of players, and when your own player does it, then you take the advantage.

However, if it’s against you, then you are sure to throw as many verbals as you can.
