The midfielder featured in the Under-23 squads of Leicester City and Sheffield United prior to leaving Leeds United.

After fleeting spells at Sheffield United and Leicester City this summer, Callum Nicell’s situation has at last been clarified by Leeds United.
Leeds announced on Monday that Nicell had left Elland Road by mutual consent – with less than 10 months remaining on his deal.
The timing of the midfielder’s release – ahead of the transfer deadline for League One and Two clubs – means he can now sign for (and be registered with) anyone at that level or below, outside of the window.
And it remains to be seen whether or not such a move is already lined up.
But, technically, there is nothing to stop Nicell from joining either Leicester or Sheffield United – whose Under-23 squads he featured in while under contract at Leeds – although he would not be eligible for first-team fixtures until the January transfer period.
And the latter outcome seems unlikely anyway, given that neither Premier League club appear to have followed up their initial interest in the Republic of Ireland youth international.

Nicell was given a taste of first-team life during Paul Heckingbottom’s reign as Leeds manager, but only ever made the bench.
And the teenager may favour clubs offering greater exposure than a Leicester or Sheffield United perhaps could, given their top-flight standing.
Where will Nicell end up after leaving Leeds?
