Newcastle United are believed to be hoping to sign Sunderland’s Jordan Pickford in the summer transfer window.
Alan Shearer has told the Sun that Sunderland should be looking for about £15 million for goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in the summer transfer window.
Shearer wrote his opinion column, just before Newcastle United’s interest in the England international became widely reported.
And in it, he said: “There are only two assets on the pitch. You might get £4m for Jermain Defoe and maybe £15m for Jordan Pickford.”

Newcastle are now said to be lining up a bid for Pickford, with Rafael Benitez keen on signing the young goalkeeper (The Sun).
Pickford has previously hinted that he wouldn’t ever move to Newcastle, but Benitez is reportedly prepared to tempt the 21-year-old into a move to St. James’ Park.
Newcastle are believed to have around £100 million to spend this summer, but Shearer clearly doesn’t feel that his former side should commit to spending over lavishly on Pickford.

For £15 million, the goalkeeper could turn out to be a valuable investment in the future.
Pickford has been one of Sunderland’s best performers this season, in what has been an awful season for the Magpies, and looks to have a future at Premier League level.
If Pickford was to move to Newcastle, he would be in competition with the likes of Rob Elliot and Karl Darlow for a first-team place.
