Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has revealed to BBC Sport that he has told the rest of Spurs’ squad that there is no replacement for Harry Kane, but they must battle on without him.
Kane looks set to miss at least a couple of weeks for Tottenham, in what already appears a huge blow.
Spurs did not function well without their man striker against Brighton & Hove Albion on their last outing, as they drew a blank.
Tottenham went down 1-0 at the south coast on Sunday evening.
And Mourinho insists that he couldn’t fault his players efforts, as they struggled without their talisman.
“It’s not about the players, I told them there is no replacement for Harry Kane,” Mourinho revealed.
“In the first half we tried to give the dynamic that give us the success with a number of goals, which is the connection with Son. We changed in the second half to playing with a clear target man, that gave us more energy, more runs, more aggression, and in the second half we were much better.”
Mourinho initially opted to replace Kane with Steven Bergwijn playing a role as the central striker, but the Dutchman struggled.
Tottenham did improve after the break when Carlos Vinicius was introduced, but they still failed to create much in the way of chances.
Spurs have a tricky game up next, as they take on Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea side on Thursday.
