Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are said to be interested in Michael O’Neill, after Northern Ireland’s failure to qualify for the World Cup.

The Daily Telegraph have suggested that Glasgow Rangers are interested in appointing Michael O’Neill, and his comments from last time he was linked with the job at Ibrox are now interesting again.

O’Neill was touted as a potential Rangers boss as soon as Pedro Caixinha was dismissed, two weeks ago.

However, with Northern Ireland still in the thick of World Cup qualifying he batted away suggestions he was about to leave.

Northern Ireland had a crucial World Cup qualifier against Switzerland to come at that stage, and he insisted that links to the Rangers job would not distract him.

Crucially, however, O’Neill did not rule himself out of the running for the job at Ibrox – and admitted that he was pleased to be linked.

“It’s not a distraction for me at all,” O’Neill said to Scotsman.

“It’s (speculation) constantly been there but it’s not something that I pay much attention to.

“My attention is here and trying to get my country to a World Cup finals.

“What may or may not happen after that is in the laps of the football gods to be honest. It’s always nice to be linked with jobs but it’s not something I have given much thought to at all.”

With Northern Ireland now out of the World Cup, O’Neill may be more open to discussing his future.

And the speculation over whether he will be handed the Rangers job is only set to intensify.

Rangers sacked Caixinha over two weeks ago, but Graeme Murty still remains in caretaker charge at this moment in time.
