When last season finished Harry Forrester might’ve been dreaming about European football after Rangers qualified for the preliminary stages of the Europa League.

Fast forward three months and the 26-year-old winger is on loan at AFC Wimbledon and is yet to start a League One match for the Dons, who sit in the relegation zone.

The Englishman started and lasted 65 minutes last night as Neal Ardley’s side edged out Tottenham Hotspur’s Under-21 outfit 4-3 in a gripping Checkatrade Trophy win.

But the fact that Ardley only starts him EFL Cup games is quite indicative of his plight and he is unlikely to return to Rangers while Pedro Caixinha is there.

It would appear as if Forrester did not heed what former Rangers boss Mark Warburton had to say about him way back in January, before his dismissal.

He told The Record: “Harry has all the ability in the world but he has to be more consistent. With the talent he has, he should be a starter.

“But there are reasons why he isn’t. He has to be better than the players currently in the team. We have options and that’s the challenge for him.”

It is rather odd that Forrester finds himself reduced to cameo appearances for the third-worst team – according to the League One standings – in the third tier of English football if he had so much ability and talent, as Warburton suggests.

Either the former Rangers manager was exaggerating his skill set, perhaps as a motivational tool to boost his confidence, or Forrester’s situation is simply a very sad case of wasted talents.
