Pep Lijnders has been praising the training-ground quality of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah at Liverpool.
The Premier League season is just over a week away for the Reds and they warmed up for the campaign with a couple of hour-long friendlies against Bologna in Italy on Thursday.
Because fitness is vital, Jurgen Klopp has been putting his Liverpool players through 1,000 metre runs at the training base in Evian this week.
And Lijnders, Klopp’s assistant, says there’s no prizes for guessing which two players have stood out in this respect.
He said via the club’s official website: “Everyone did the extra 1,000 metre runs as fast as they could, but we had Mo and Sadio together catching all of the others. What machines those two are, it’s incredible.”
Having scored 31 goals in all competitions last season, Salah remains Liverpool’s most influential player by some distance.
But it was a pretty poor campaign for Mane last time around and he’ll want to get back to his red-hot best.
The Senegal international only managed 16 goals across all competitions during the 2020-21 campaign, which still isn’t an awful return but when you’re Sadio Mane, it isn’t great either because he’s capable of so much more.
Liverpool begin their Premier League campaign with a trip to newly-promoted Norwich City on Saturday week.
