Jordan Spieth is currently on the outside looking in when it comes to earning a spot on the US Ryder Cup team for September.
Keegan Bradley will lead Team USA at Bethpage Black, and Spieth, who hails from Dallas, still hopes to play his way onto the squad.
He’ll need more than hope, though. There’s no shortage of American players in good form at the moment, with Chris Gotterup and Cameron Young both making strong cases of their own.
Just last week, Spieth said he needs a string of good results if he’s going to have any chance of making the squad. With players like Chris Gotterup and Cameron Young hitting top form at the right time, it won’t be easy.
He also knows what he needs to do: get some wins under his belt. And with the FedEx Cup Playoffs coming up, there are plenty of opportunities for him to prove himself.
Jordan Spieth reveals if he believes he should be on the Ryder Cup team

Spieth has shown he is well aware of his poor form this season. He has had no luck with injuries, but even when fit, his performances failed to impress.
Speaking to SIRIUSXM PGA Tour Radio, the 32-year-old golfer discussed what he feels needs to happen for him to secure a spot on the team.
He said: “Well, it was my loftiest goal to start the season. I was coming in with almost no carryover points from 2024 which hurt. It was unusual for me for a Ryder Cup year, and then obviously skipping the first month of the season and starting late.
“The idea that I have a chance for it is very cool. If you told me I had a chance in August I would have been excited about it. Having said that, I’m on the outside looking in right now, I recognise that.
“I keep trying to convince Keegan that it will be a lot for him to play too, so he should probably give up that pick. It just seems like way too much to do. So I’m trying to open up all opportunities I can (laughs).
“It would be incredible; I’ve played in five of them and would love to play in another five if I can or more. This one will be special being at Bethpage. It would mean a lot to me but I know I’m on the outside looking in.
“I guess I could still automatically qualify but the point is I’m still reliant on the captain and the assistants to think that I would be an additive addition to the team, so that’s my goal.“
Jordan Spieth’s 2025 PGA Tour results
2025 has been a tough year for Spieth, who has struggled to find any real form. His results on the PGA Tour so far in 2025 are:
| Results | Spieth’s total |
| Events played | 18 |
| Wins | 0 |
| Top-10s | 4 |
| Top-25s | 8 |
| Missed cuts | 2 |
Spieth knows he needs to produce something special in the coming weeks if he wants to earn a spot on the Ryder Cup team.
There are simply too many Americans playing better golf than him at the moment.
A win at the FedEx St. Jude Championship could be exactly what Spieth needs to strengthen his case for Bethpage Black next month.
