It appears Chris Paul was trying to stir the pot just weeks before he was sent home by the LA Clippers.
The LA Clippers decided to send Chris Paul home after a brutal loss on the road. Since then, the conjecture from their side has been that the Point God was very difficult to work with.
Many believe these issues began over the last week, but it appears Paul did himself no favors when he took digs at the team on social media.
Jeff Van Gundy warned Chris Paul not to meddle with LA Clippers’ defensive schemes
NBA insider Chris Haynes provided some insight into Chris Paul’s social media activity in the days leading up to his departure from the LA Clippers.
During the game against the Dallas Mavericks, Chris Paul suggested that Kawhi Leonard not guard Klay Thompson, as he wasn’t warmed up enough and was struggling to hold him off.
The next day, Clippers assistant coach Jeff Van Gundy called a team meeting, where he told Paul he didn’t have the leeway to do what he did, leading to Paul sharing a definition of leeway on Instagram.
“I was told that Jeff Van Gundy told Chris Paul, ‘Listen, you might have had leeway in other places to be able to change up defensive coverages, but you don’t have that leeway here.'”
LA Clippers need to create a culture with accountability
This story is yet another example of how dysfunctional the LA Clippers have become. A veteran player like Chris Paul making a suggestion to the coaching staff landed him in hot water.
Nothing about the situation with Chris Paul makes the Clippers look good. But with each passing story, they look worse.
At this stage, it’s best if the LA Clippers clean house and start fresh with a new roster and a new front office, because their current culture is irredeemable.
The Clippers can no longer be taken seriously as a franchise with winning ambitions if they keep operating this way.
