Kia Joorabchian has revealed that he doesn’t see the point of Mesut Ozil being at Arsenal, arguing that the debacle should’ve been resolved two years ago.
The Germany World Cup winner made a rare appearance in a Gunners shirt last weekend as Mikel Arteta’s side lost a pre-season friendly to Aston Villa.
It was Ozil’s first game for Arsenal since March after failing to play a single minute of football during Project Restart.
The 31-year-old originally made the bench on a couple of occasions under Arteta when football resumed, but then found himself being left out of the squad every few days as the Emirates Stadium side won the FA Cup without their enigmatic playmaker anywhere near the team.
The former Real Madrid star signed a new £350,000-a-week new contract in December of 2017 but has done precious little to justify the money ever since.
Over the past two seasons, Ozil has scored seven goals and set up six across all competitions.
He is regularly linked with a move away, but no club is willing to match the salary that he’s earning in North London.
And super agent Joorabchian has conceded that he’s at a loss to explain the logistics of the situation, suggesting that this situation isn’t beneficial for anybody.
He told talkSPORT: “The Ozil situation should have been resolved two years ago. I mean, what is the point of a player sitting there not playing? Who gains from that? I just don’t see the point of it, because you leave a player unhappy, the family of that player unhappy and the club is unhappy.”
Arsenal are back in Premier League action with a trip to Fulham this weekend.
