Marcelo Bielsa is a revered figure among most Leeds United fans, but the Argentine manager has angered quite a lot of them.
With one win from eight Premier League games, Bielsa’s side are just one place above the relegation zone.
Tomorrow’s visit of Wolves offers Leeds the chance to pick up a second win of the season.
But if they are going to do it, Bielsa’s troops will need to succeed without the aid of midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
The England international is arguably the Whites’ most influential player, but he was injured in the defeat at Southampton last week – and badly missed.
Bielsa revealed to a pre-match press conference on Thursday that despite the 25-year-old being fit, Phillips wouldn’t be risked against Wolves on Saturday.
And suffice to say that a lot of Leeds fans are up in arms. Here’s how they responded to Adam Pope’s transcription of his quotes on Twitter:
Spot on
At 66 years of age, Bielsa is as wise and experienced as they come in terms of Premier League coaches.
But Leeds fans are right to be livid.
Think about it: as of right now, they’re in a relegation battle and although their form may improve, you can’t ignore the fact that United are 17th in the table.
Bielsa absolutely needs his best players and Leeds don’t want to look back on this game come May and regret resting a player of Phillips’s quality.
