Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson cannot believe that Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United have signed Sergio Reguilon from Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur after failing to land Marc Cucurella from Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea.

Manchester United have signed Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon after failing to agree a deal with Chelsea for Marc Cucurella.

United have announced on their official website that Reguilon has joined from Premier League rivals Tottenham on loan until June 2024.

Manager Erik ten Hag has said that Reguilon has already trained with his team.

According to The Mirror, United wanted to sign Cucurella from Chelsea, but the Red Devils could not manage to get a deal done with the Blues.

Former Arsenal star and Sky Sports pundit Merson does not believe that Reguilon is good enough to play for United, and seems shocked that the Red Devils have signed the £28 million (talkSPORT) on a loan deal.

The pundit thinks that it is worrying that United could not muster up the funds to sign Cucurella and had to settle on Reguilon.

Merson said on Sky Sports: “Reguilon? If you’re a Man Utd fan you’re a bit worried. Cucurella – Chelsea wanted £7m and they couldn’t put up the £7m to take a good player on loan.

“And Liverpool are turning down £150m fees. What is happening here? Where are Man Utd going at the moment?”

Reguilon has made 52 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.

The Spain international left-back has scored two goals, given six assists, and kept 13 clean sheets in those games.
