Alessandro Bastoni to Tottenham Hotspur isn’t completely dead yet.
It was reported last weekend that Inter Milan chief Piero Ausilio had travelled to London to speak with Spurs about signing the £54 million-rated defender.
This came after the Italy international’s agent revealed that the player himself was very happy at San Siro, a point hammered home by Bastoni after he posted black and blue heart emojis – Inter colours – on Instagram in response to those comments.
But that report about Ausilio meeting with Tottenham officials has given the transfer rumour a new lease of life and it seems a lot more realistic now than it did after the 23-year-old’s agent comments.
However, Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici may not want him any longer if they saw his latest international display.
Germany were leading 5-0 by 69 minutes against Italy in a Nations League encounter on Tuesday night, with the visitors later pulling two goals back.
And Gazzetta Dello Sport have torn into the reported Tottenham target, giving him a 4/10 and describing him as the ‘worst’ player on the pitch, before finishing off the paragraph by writing: “What is happening to him?”
It’s worth pointing out that the big centre-back scored one of the Italians’ two goals, the final one.
But even that wasn’t good enough to cancel out his erratic performance at the other end, going by the damning Gazzetta verdict.
It remains to be seen if Alessandro Bastoni to Tottenham Hotspur has any real legs, but this wasn’t a promising sign.
