Liverpool have confirmed that Rhys Williams has joined Swansea City on loan for the 2021/22 Championship season.
The club announced the late deal on their official website. The 20-year-old defender had departed for Wales for the year. As well as joining Swansea, Williams has also signed a new deal with the Reds.
Williams was the third player to sign a new contract with the club yesterday. Jordan Henderson and Nat Phillips also penned new deals with Liverpool.
Indeed, Swansea has proven to be a good destination for Premier League youngsters over the past two seasons. Former Liverpool talent Rhian Brewster was a sensation for the Championship side in the 2019/20 season.
Indeed, Williams could have a similar success story with Swansea this season. The defender enjoyed a breakout year with Liverpool last campaign.
However, the arrival of Ibrahima Konate and the returns of Virgin van Dijk and Joe Gomez from injury will push the defender back to the bench. And Swansea will likely guarantee Williams regular playing time.

And on social media, fans were stunned by the announcement. Williams had impressed with Liverpool last campaign and were shocked he was heading to Swansea for the year.
