Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react after Crystal Palace announced the signing of Odsonne Edouard on a four-year deal.

What’s the story?

Well, it appears some Arsenal fans are a bit jealous of Crystal Palace’s deadline day activity.

Their jealousy isn’t entirely unfounded however, as the Gunners were actually said to be interested in signing Edouard.

That was according to The Times, who claimed that Mikel Arteta was keen to sign the Frenchman this summer.

Sadly for the north Londoners, Edouard has now moved to south London in a deal worth £14m.

It’s a very exciting signing for Patrick Vieira.

Edouard scored 86 goals in 179 games for Celtic, and is still just 23 years of age – if he settles quickly, the Eagles could have a serious player on their hands.

We appreciate the gap in quality between the Scottish Premiership and the Premier League comes into the equation here.

However, we firmly believe Edouard was an obtainable player worth having for a club of Arsenal’s stature, especially for just £14m.

The former Paris Saint-Germain striker would’ve fit in well in a heavily French-speaking environment, alongside the likes of Alexandre Lacazette, Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Additionally, Edouard is capable of playing out on the left too, so his versatility could’ve been useful to Arteta.

The Gunners also scored just 55 goals in 38 Premier League games last season – eight teams outscored them, including West Ham and Leeds.

So, the fact that Arteta didn’t push hard for another forward is very strange, especially as Edouard was available for just £14m.

Nevertheless, let’s see what the Arsenal fans on Twitter have been saying about Crystal Palace’s deadline day capture…
