Just as we expected, there was controversy in the Premier League match between Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Arsenal and Manchester City locked horns with each other in North London today.

As you would expect, it was a very competitive match between (arguably?) the two best teams in the Premier League.

And, as we are accustomed to by now, there was a major controversy.

Mateo Kovacic controversy in Arsenal vs Manchester City

It happened in the first half.

Mateo Kovacic started the match for City against Arsenal.

The former Chelsea star was deployed in defensive midfield.

Kovacic earned a yellow card for a challenge on Arsenal and Norway international attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard on the halfway line.

The midfielder missed the ball completely and followed through onto Odegaard’s right ankle.

Referee Michael Oliver booked Kovacic after a VAR check.

Kovacic then made a challenge on Arsenal and England international midfielder Declan Rice.

The City star was too slow to intercept Rice’s pass, and the diving tackle looked dangerous.

Richard Keys gives his verdict

BeinSPORT presenter Richard Keys has given his take on the incidents.

The former Sky Sports presenter believes that Kovacic should have been sent off, as you can see below.
