Celtic’s signing of Vakoun Issouf Bayo could end up overshadowing Jermain Defoe at Rangers.

Vakoun Issouf Bayo arrived in Glasgow yesterday following completion of his transfer to Celtic.

Bayo is Celtic’s only permanent signing of the transfer window so far, and he is not getting the attention he deserves.

This is due to two things. Rangers’ signing of Jermain Defoe has hogged the attention. Meanwhile Celtic’s recent transfer window have done little to inspire confidence.

Previous low cost foreign gambles like Kouassi Eboue and Marvin Compper have been disasters, and so Celtic fans know better than to pin their hopes on a £2 million deal for Bayo.

But what if Bayo actually is the real deal?

He arrives at Celtic in red hot form, after scoring 18 goals in 23 games in the Slovakian top flight.

The Ivorian striker comes personally recommended by Didier Drogba, while Celtic assistant Kolo Toure pushed hard for his signature.

New teammate Timothy Weah has done Bayo a big favour already by scoring on his debut, taking the pressure off the permanent addition.

The Scottish media’s attention is on a 36-year-old Jermain Defoe.

It could be 22-year-old Bayo who ends up being the striker who will decide the title.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers arrives prior to the Scottish Ladbrokes Premiership match Celtic and Kilmarnock at Celtic Park Stadium on December 8, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.
