Could two wrongs make a right at Tottenham Hotspur?
Tottenham Hotspur have become the latest club linked with making a bold move to sign Manchester United winger Memphis Depay.
The Liverpool Echo report Tottenham are set to battle Everton for the Dutchman’s signature, with Depay out of favour at Old Trafford.
Depay at Tottenham would become a fascinating proposition, as it would mean the North London side would own both the 2014/15 and 2015/16 Eredivisie top goalscorers.
Memphis Depay celebrates scoring against Luxembourg
In his final season for PSV Eindhoven, Depay bagged 28 goals in 40 games in all competitions, with 22 in 30 league games enough to finish as top scorer in the 14/15 season.
He would be able to link up with Vincent Janssen, who struck 31 times in 49 games for AZ Alkmaar last season, 27 in 34 league matches.
In the Premier League it is safe to say the pair have not enjoyed anywhere close to similar success.
Tottenham’s Vincent Janssen in action
Across one-and-a-half seasons, Depay has scored only two league goals in 33 matches for Manchester United, while Vincent Janssen has one goal – a penalty – in 11 Premier League appearances for Tottenham.
But what if two wrongs combine to make a spectacular right?
Depay and Janssen play together at international level for Holland, and linking up together could help each of them on and off the field.
Both players are only 22-years-old, and far too young to write off. With patience and the right coaching – Mauricio Pochettino could be just the man – they could combine to become real assets, even if they score half as many per season as they did in the Netherlands.
