Speaking to GiveMeSport, Fabrizio Romano has delivered an update on Everton’s pursuit of Kalidou Koulibaly.

The Senegalese centre-half has been linked with a move to Goodison Park in recent weeks, and it would be a move that makes sense, with Koulibaly previously working under Carlo Ancelotti at Napoli.

Romano says that Koulibaly may be interested in a switch, but there is nothing advanced at this point.

“I think he would be interested because he’s always had this attractive situation with the Premier League, so he’s always been attracted by Premier League clubs, and last summer he was really close to joining Manchester City, so his agent is very strong with Premier League clubs,” Romano said.

“At the moment, what I am told is that with Everton there is nothing advanced. Obviously Ancelotti loves the player, so I can say yes, because he was amazing with Ancelotti at Napoli, and they had a fantastic relationship. Remember the Napoli president De Laurentis he asked for €80m, and City arrived with €65/67m and they said €80m or nothing.”

It seems as though a deal could be reached, but it’s still a long way away yet.

Koulibaly wouldn’t come cheaply, but we can’t imagine that the €80m (£68m) pricetag will remain this season. After all, the centre-half is one year older, his contract is closer to expiry and football finances are entirely different after another season of no fans.

Koulibaly joining Everton would be an absolute coup, and with Romano saying that he’s a player Ancelotti loves, it may be worth keeping an eye on this situation.
