‘What I am saying is true’: What MB said about his possible replacement at Leeds

Leeds United have reportedly identified potential replacements for Marcelo Bielsa.

And one of them is a very familiar figure at Thorp Arch.

According to The Telegraph, Carlos Corberan is one of three managers who Leeds have shortlisted to succeed the legendary South American at Elland Road.

Corberan is leading United’s Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town in the Championship, with the Spaniard’s outfit sitting fifth in the standings and well placed to finish in the playoffs.

The 38-year-old worked under Bielsa at Leeds and also managed the club’s Under-23 outfit once upon a time.

And if the decision was left up to the veteran Argentine, Bielsa would probably hire Corberan, too.

When he left Leeds to become the Terriers’ head coach in 2020, the 66-year-old was full of praise for his former colleague.

Speaking via Sky Sports, Bielsa said this of Corberan at the time: “Carlos Corberan has been chosen by one Championship team to be the manager of the first team and it is a team that one year ago was in the Premier League. This proves what I am saying is true.”

Bielsa is one of football’s most respected coaches, with figures like Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino drawing inspiration from his methods once upon a time.

And it’s safe to say that Corberan will have learned a lot from working directly under the eccentric Leeds manager.

Of course, it isn’t a given that Bielsa is even leaving West Yorkshire yet but, with his contract expiring at the end of this season, and the man himself turning 67 in July, it’s only right for the Whites to consider long-term replacements.
