Some Arsenal fans on social media have been reacting after Sky Sports reported they’ve reached an agreement in principle to sign Aaron Ramsdale from Sheffield United, and it’s fair to say they’re not happy.
Usually, a rumour of a new signing is a time to be optimistic, but in this case, it’s hard to find a single Arsenal fan who is happy about this reported move.
Unfortunately, on this occasion, it’s not hard to see where they’re coming from.
Spending a reported £24m, rising to £30m, on a backup goalkeeper is preposterous in any circumstance, but when you’re paying that for a goalkeeper who has been relegated two seasons in a row, you can’t help but ask questions.
There are plenty of good goalkeepers out there available for cheaper fees, of course, the first one that springs to mind is Andre Onana, who Arsenal were linked with for just £7m, but now it seems as though that move will not be happening.
