Gary Neville has expressed his shock on Sky Sports at the turnaround of Miguel Almiron at Newcastle United under manager Eddie Howe.

The former Manchester United defender has noted that Almiron has completely changed at Newcastle under Howe.

The Sky Sports pundit has highlighted that during his initial years at St. James’ Park, the £20 million (BBC Sport) signing from Major League Soccer club Atlanta United was ridiculed.

Neville said: “We were watching Almiron then and were thinking, ‘What has happened to him?’

“He was almost ridiculed, wasn’t he, for the first year or two he was at the club? And now all of a sudden, you are thinking, ‘What a player he looks’.”

In form

In our view, Miguel Almiron has been one of the best players for Newcastle United this season and is a big reason why the Magpies are doing so well at the moment.

The 28-year-old attacking midfielder is scoring goals and creating chances, and he has established himself as one of the first names on Eddie Howe’s teamsheet now.

The Paraguay international has scored eight goals in 14 Premier League appearances for the Magpies so far this season.

Last season, Almiron scored one goal in 19 Premier League starts for Newcastle, while in 2020-21, the playmaker scored four goals and gave one assist in 28 league starts for the Magpies.
