What Harry Wilson could bring to Liverpool's squad

Liverpool have decided not to send Harry Wilson out on loan again this season, according to the Liverpool Echo.

They report that the Reds see little value in loaning fringe players out given the current financial situation.

That leaves two options. Wilson stays at Anfield for at least another season, or he is bought this summer.

The report says Liverpool want £20 million, as a loose guide. We’ve looked at what he can bring to Jurgen Klopp’s ranks if he sticks around.

Xherdan Shaqiri slipped down the Liverpool pecking order last season.

Although a move away doesn’t look close yet, Wilson would hope to supercede the Swiss international in Klopp’s plans if he stayed.

Both men are left-footers who enjoy cutting in from the right but Wilson works harder.

He’s also had a year in Eddie Howe’s high-pressing Bournemouth side, which gave him a much-needed taste of Premier League life.

Of course, Liverpool have Trent Alexander-Arnold on set-piece duty.

But for those occasions when the Englishman isn’t on the pitch, or the angle suits the left-footer, Wilson is the man.

He has smashed in free kicks for Derby, Wales and Bournemouth.

Wilson maybe has some work to do on the rest of his game but the quality of his free-kicks is outstanding.

Liverpool aren’t going to spend big money on freshening up their squad this season, and with good reason.

But it is always important to add hungry players and new ideas to keep everyone on their toes.

Bringing back Wilson, who will no doubt be keen to impress, is a way Klopp can do that without spending a penny.

If perhaps the form of backups like Shaqiri and Divock Origi have gone stale, Wilson should offer more fizz and freshness if nothing else.
