Ivan Toney’s return to the England squad ahead of the World Cup raised plenty of eyebrows.
The striker has been playing in Saudi Arabia for the past few years, and many believe that Saudi Pro League stars shouldn’t be in the England reckoning.
However, Ivan Toney is now back in the England mix, and while fans may be a bit confused, one man who is happy is England captain, Harry Kane.
According to The Times journalist Hamzah Khalique-Loonat, Kane is a big fan of Toney, and he’s gone as far as to speak to Thomas Tuchel about the striker.

Speaking on The Game Football Podcast about Toney’s return, Khalique-Loonat revealed an interesting detail.
The journalist claims that Harry Kane has had a chat with Thomas Tuchel about Toney, and he’s said that he enjoys playing with him.
“But it will be really interesting to see how Ivan Toney fits within that, especially on long throws and long balls. It will be really cool to see as well how he might link with Harry Kane if they play together,” the journalist said.

It is interesting to hear this insight, and it’s even more interesting when you look into the stats.
Kane and Toney have trained together on numerous occasions, but they have only ever shared a pitch once for England.
Indeed, Toney and Kane have only played together once – a game against Slovakia at Euro 2024 where they shared the pitch for 15 minutes.
However, within that 15 minutes, Toney did assist Kane for the winning goal, so this is a partnership that clearly has some grounding.
Who knows? Perhaps we will see Kane and Toney together more often than we think this summer.
