The Three Lions have reached the Round of 16 stage at the World Cup, where a lot of people have asked “what happens if England beat Senegal” as Gareth Southgate prepares for Sunday’s clash at 7pm.
The likes of Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham could have found themselves facing a tricky test against the Netherlands had they finished second in Group B, although the 3-0 win over Wales ensured the United States would have to take on the Oranje.
Now, let’s take a look at what happens in Qatar if England can beat Senegal on Sunday…
What happens if England beat Senegal?
Well, if Southgate can send Aliou Cissé and Senegal home on Sunday, a quarter-final clash with the winners of Group D, currently topped by France, or the nation who finishes second in Group C, which as things stand, is Argentina, awaits.
That game will take place on Saturday 10th December at 7pm if the Three Lions defeat Senegal.

If England emerge victorious from their potential quarter-final clash, then they will face one of Croatia, Japan, Portugal or Switzerland on Wednesday 14th December at 7pm in the semi-final, as reinforced by Sky Sports.
Should Southgate guide England to back-to-back major tournament finals, then the final will take place on Sunday 18th December against the winners of the other semi-final, possibly Brazil, with the showpiece event set to be held at the Lusail Stadium.
England have a great chance of winning the World Cup
In our view, the Three Lions may not get a better chance to win the World Cup for years.
Of course, Southgate will want to avoid France in the quarter-final, but England could also find themselves up against Poland or Saudi Arabia in that quarter-final clash, depending on who finishes second in Argentina’s Group C.
The current crop of England stars have gained valuable tournament experience in recent years, having reached the semi-final at the 2018 World Cup, and the final of EURO 2020.
Hopefully, Southgate and the Three Lions can put that experience to good use in Qatar.
