In Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods, we have two of the most competitive sports-people to ever compete in the professional ranks.

Woods is a 15-time major winner and renowned for being super competitive and using any method he can to get into the head of his opponents.

Jordan, meanwhile, is a six-time NBA champion and widely regarded by many as the greatest basketball player of all time.

Of course, we’ve all heard stories of just how competitive Jordan is as well. It’s little wonder he drove the Bulls to those six titles.

Jordan is also an avid golf lover and interestingly, a good friend of Woods as well.

So when Woods had a cheeky little side bet with Jordan back at the Golf Digest US Open Challenge in 2009, the NBA legend was always going to take it seriously.

How Michael Jordan proved his golf game in a bet with Tiger Woods

Those of us who have watched The Last Dance on Netflix know all about the competitive nature of Michael Jordan.

It’s not just in basketball. The American takes on any challenge he can and that includes golf.

So, when Woods bet him he couldn’t break a score of 92 back in 2009, Jordan was obviously keen to not only prove his friend wrong, but also earn some extra cash along the way.

In true Jordan fashion, he went out there and did just what Woods suggested he couldn’t do.

Settling into the round eventually, Jordan produced the goods and finished under the 92 mark.

“Because I’m playing a game that I’m not a professional at,” Jordan said at the time. “If we’re playing basketball, you could turn the camera guys on all day. But when you step outside your field, it’s a whole different atmosphere. You become human, and I was nervous.”

Asked further on his winnings from Woods, Jordan had a typical response.

“I don’t take checks,” Jordan responded in jest.

So, it just goes to show that even outside the realms of basketball, Jordan is still a force to be reckoned with.
