Tottenham Hotspur reportedly wanted Vincent Marcel in the summer.

Daniel Levy , chairman of Tottenham Hotspur looks on during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Swansea City at Wembley Stadium on September 16, 2017 in London, England.

Back in the summer, French outlet Foot Mercato reported that Tottenham Hotspur had agreed a deal to sign Vincent Marcel on a five-year contract.

Spurs never followed through with signing the 20-year-old winger and if his first five months of the 2017-18 campaign is anything to go by then chairman Daniel Levy won’t be renewing an interest in January.

Marcel, for whatever reason, has almost disappeared completely at Nice, despite a promising start to the new campaign.

The Frenchman scored a 79th-minute equaliser away to Ajax in a third-round Champions League qualifier which ended 2-2.

With Nice progressing on away goals, it was Marcel who fired them into the playoffs, where they lost 4-0 to Napoli over two legs, but the youngster only played 11 minutes over both games.

Marcel hasn’t appeared in a matchday squad for a Ligue 1 match since the defeat by Troyes in August and has since been forced to accept a bit-part role in Nice’s B side – who play in the fourth tier of French football – and has only managed seven starts, scoring once and receiving one red card.

Strange as it sounds but Marcel, according to Foot Mercato, was on the brink of joining Tottenham in the summer, but playing under Mauricio Pochettino in North London has never looked further away now.
