Ex Leeds United and Manchester United talent is getting back on track in non-league football.
It is two years since young goalkeeper Theo Richardson left Leeds United to pursue a career at their rivals Manchester United.
Richardson swapped Leeds’ academy for hopes of a career at Old Trafford, but his spell in Manchester did not last long.
Richardson had a trial with the Premier League side in early 2017 and his move to United was confirmed that summer, the Manchester Evening News reported.
The goalkeeper had previously been part of Leeds’ academy side and played for the Whites in the FA Youth Cup.
At Leeds he was competing for position in the under-23s with a number of talented young goalkeepers, including Will Huffer, Bailey Peacock-Farrell, and Harrison Male.
Unfortunately he ran into similar troubles at Manchester United.
He was mostly used as a back-up for the under-23s, and he was released from his contract last summer.
Richardson has since come close to moves to Championship sides, with West London Sport reporting QPR took him on trial. The Birmingham Mail subsequently reported Garry Monk handed him a trial with Birmingham City.
No deal came to fruition and now Richardson is playing non-league football with Cleesthorpe Town.
While this seems like, and is a downgrade in terms of stature, Richardson is gaining first team experience at a competitive level,
He has been playing regularly since signing in December and is making a good impression.
A dip down to non-league football is likely to just be temporary, and Richardson will be hoping this experience will help him earn a contract at a Football League club this summer.
