We catch up with the players linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur last summer.

Brace yourself, the transfer rumours are coming.
Tottenham Hotspur’s fantastic season is over which means it’s time to start thinking about the transfer window. With this in mind, it feels like an appropriate time to reflect on last year’s summer speculation and find out what happened to these players.
Spurs were strongly linked with moves for Mario Gotze (via German publication Bild) and Gini Wijnaldum (via The Independent).
Gotze ended up returning to Borussia Dortmund in July. The German midfielder featured in 11 Bundesliga games before a metabolic disorder ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

Wijnaldum, who had just been relegated with Newcastle United, opted for a move to Liverpool. He has won plaudits as a key member of Jurgen Klopp’s side, collecting nine assists and six goals for the Reds.
His Liverpool teammate, Adam Lallana, was also reported, by The Sun, to be on Mauricio Pochettino’s wish-list last summer. The England international racked up eight goals and seven assists in his third year at the club.
As reported by The Mirror, Michy Batshuayi was rumoured to be on his way to White Hart Lane before Chelsea swooped in to secure his signature. Despite the success of Antonio Conte’s side, it has largely been a frustrating season, at least on an individual level, for Batshuayi. He could be leaving Stamford Bridge in the coming months after making just one Premier League start.

After endless rumours, Saido Berahino was finally set to join Tottenham last summer, according to The Guardian.
That deal never happened and the forward had to wait until January before signing a five-and-a-half-year deal for Stoke City. Even though Berahino found a way out of The Hawthorns, the forward failed to score in 13 outings for his new team – extending his goalless run which dates back to February 2016.
Real Madrid’s Isco could soon be celebrating La Liga and Champions League title wins after a summer switch to Spurs, reported by The Mirror, failed to materialise. The 25-year-old, who bagged ten league goals, recently stated his intention to stay in Madrid for another year.
Isco helped secure the La Liga title in a game against a Malaga side featuring fellow rumoured Spurs summer target, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Sandro Ramirez. The Spaniard left Barcelona on a free transfer in July and has gone on to net 14 league goals for Boquerones.
