Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers face Motherwell on the opening day of the new Scottish Premiership season, just as they did 11 years ago.

Rangers kick off the Scottish Premiership season with a trip to Motherwell in less than a week, just as they did 11 years ago when Paul Le Guen took the Gers to Fir Park.

Though the Frenchman’s tenure was disappointing, the season did begin with a 2-1 win. But what happened to the Rangers XI that started that day?

Here, HITC Sport has taken a look…

Lionel Letizi

Lionel Letizi arrived at Ibrox in 2006, quickly becoming Le Guen’s number one. Despite making mistakes, he kept his place when fit but was soon released following the manager’s departure. He joined Nice in 2007 and remained there for four years, retiring in 2011.

Alan Hutton

Alan Hutton stayed with Rangers until 2008, joining Premier League side Tottenham. In 2011, he joined Aston Villa, and while he has made over 120 league appearances for the Villans, he has been loaned out three times.

Karl Svensson

Karl Svensson made 27 Scottish Premiership appearances during his one year with the Gers. He left for Caen in 2007, before returning to Sweden – for whom he collected one cap at senior level – to play for Goteborg and Jonkopings Sodra until 2014.

Julien Rodriguez

Julien Rodriguez arrived at Rangers in 2005 before leaving in 2007. He would join Marseille, spending five years at Stade Velodrome before retiring in 2012.

Steven Smith

Steven Smith’s injury-plagued first spell at Rangers ended in 2010. He subsequently played for Norwich, Preston North End and Portland Timbers before returning to Ibrox for a couple of years in 2013. He has been on Kilmarnock’s books since 2015.

Libor Sionko

Libor Sionko’s Rangers career could not have started better as he scored the opener against Well. He would stay for just one injury-plagued season, leaving for Copenhagen in 2007. After two years there, he joined Sparta Prague before finishing his career in 2012.

Jeremy Clement

After playing for Lyon, Le Guen brought Jeremy Clement to Rangers in 2006. He would sign him for a third time in early 2007 having been appointed as Paris Saint-Germain boss. In 2011, he joined Saint-Etienne, where he remains today.

Brahim Hemdani

Rangers would be Brahim Hemdani’s final club. The club’s 2007 Player of the Year would leave in 2009, with his final appearance for the side coming one year earlier in the UEFA Cup final.

Charlie Adam

It was under Le Guen that Charlie Adam would become a first-team regular. He would depart for Blackpool in 2009, and after one underwhelming season at Liverpool, he joined Stoke in 2012. He has made 133 Premier League appearances for the Potters.

Thomas Buffel

Despite falling out of favour much earlier, Thomas Buffel would have to wait until 2008 to secure a move away from Rangers, joining Cercle Brugge. The 36-year-old has spent the last eight years with Genk.

Dado Prso

The 2006/07 season would prove to be Dado Prso’s last at Rangers and the last of his playing career. The striker – who scored the winner against Motherwell – retired due to injury in 2007.
