West Ham begin their Premier League season with a daunting trip to Old Trafford to face big-spending Manchester United.
Slaven Bilic’s men will be looking to claim their first victory at the ground since 2007 when Alan Curbishley’s side famously claimed a 1-0 win that kept them in the Premier League on the final day of the season.
Here, HITC Sport takes a look at the Hammers XI that started on that day 10 years ago…
Rob Green
Rob Green left West Ham in 2012, spending the next four years with Queens Park Rangers. He joined Leeds in 2016, and despite playing every one of their league games during his first year with the club, he is yet to play for the Whites this season.
Lucas Neill
Despite being 31 by the time he left West Ham, Lucas Neill would play for another eight clubs before retiring in 2014, including Everton, Galatasaray and Watford.
James Collins
James Collins moved to Aston Villa in 2009, but returned to Upton Park three years later. If he plays against United on Sunday, he will be making his 200th appearance for the Irons in all competitions.
Anton Ferdinand
Anton Ferdinand joined Sunderland in 2008, before spending two years with QPR three years later. After spells in Turkey and in non-league football, he joined Reading in 2014. He arrived at current side Southend in 2016.
George McCartney
Like Ferdinand, George McCartney also left West Ham in 2008, returning to former club Sunderland. After four more years with the Black Cats – that included three loan spells at Leeds – he rejoined the Irons. He would spend another two years with West Ham, leaving again in 2014.
Yossi Benayoun
The win over Manchester United would prove to be Yossi Benayoun’s last appearance for the Hammers for five years as he left for Liverpool that summer. He subsequently joined Chelsea, enjoying loan spells with Arsenal and West Ham during that time on the Blues’ books. A spell with QPR would be the midfielder’s last in England, before he returned to Israel in 2014. He now plays for Beitar Jerusalem at the age of 37.
Mark Noble
The 2006/07 season would be Mark Noble’s last as a peripheral figure at West Ham. The midfielder has made at least 28 appearances every season since, and will be hoping to make his 403rd appearance for the Irons this weekend.
Nigel Reo-Coker
Like Benayoun, the final day victory was the last game of Nigel Reo-Coker’s time at West Ham as he joined Aston Villa. After a decent spell with the Villans, he joined Bolton and has since played for Vancouver Whitecaps, Chivas, Montreal Impact and Start. He is currently unattached.
Luis Boa Morte
Luis Boa Morte would stay with the Hammers until 2011, leaving for AEL. He finished his playing career with spells at Orlando Pirates and Chesterfield. After various coaching roles, he was appointed Sintrense boss earlier this year.
Bobby Zamora
Bobby Zamora’s West Ham career would end in 2008, as he left for Fulham, helping the Cottagers reach the UEFA Cup final at one stage. He joined QPR in 2012 and stayed until 2015 when he returned to former club Brighton. He retired in 2016.
Carlos Tevez
The hero of the day and the second-half of the season was Carlos Tevez. His winner settled the game and kept the Irons up, and it also proved to be his last notable act for the club before he left for Manchester United. He then spent four years with Manchester City, before playing for the likes of Juventus, Boca Juniors and Shanghai Shenhua.
