In recent weeks, Newcastle have enjoyed some stunning results under Eddie Howe, including six wins amid a nine-game unbeaten run.

Dan Burn – a £13m January signing from Brighton – has played a huge role in the turnaround on Tyneside, delivering a number of imperious displays at the back.

With much of the spotlight on Newcastle’s 6ft 7in colossus, you may have noticed that Burn is missing a finger.

How did this happen? Let’s take a look…

As you can see in the photo above, Burn is missing a finger on his right hand.

The 29-year-old is without his ring finger, due to an incident which allegedly happened when he was just 13.

According to The Free Library, Burn was wearing a ring while climbing a fence during his teenage years, when it got caught on a spike.

It caused the finger to rip off, although he clearly didn’t allow that to distract him from making it as a professional footballer.

Dan Burn has shone for Newcastle

Some people laughed when Newcastle went from the likes of Sven Botman and Diego Carlos to Burn in January, but they’re not laughing now.

The Blyth-born defender has now made six Premier League appearances for the Magpies, losing just one – even that defeat was unlucky, as Chelsea nicked a late winner on Sunday.

Nevertheless, Burn has added plenty of aerial dominance to Howe’s backline, while he also plays with admirable passion seeing as he supports Newcastle.

He has proven to be an inspired signing by the Magpies, and we hope to see his fine form at St James’ Park continue.
