Celtic drew with Kilmarnock on the opening day of the 2006/07 Scottish Premiership season.

With around a week to go before the new Scottish Premiership season begins, some Celtic fans may be recalling some of the best and worst season curtain-raisers from years gone by.

10 years ago, the Hoops began the top flight season with a goalless draw with Kilmarnock at Parkhead – but would recover from that shaky start to win the league title while also reaching the last 16 of the Champions League.

But what became of the Bhoys side that started that day? Here, HITC Sport has taken a look…

Mark Brown

Goalkeeper Mark Brown began his career with Rangers but Celtic still decided to sign him in 2007. He stayed until 2010, making a handful of appearances along the way. He played for Hibernian, Ross County and Dumbarton before retiring from playing earlier this year.

Mark Wilson

Mark Wilson’s injury-plagued spell at Celtic came to an end in 2012. He retired from playing in 2015 after stints with Bristol City, Dundee United and Dumbarton. He managed Airdrie for much of last season before leaving in the summer.

John Kennedy

Another player whose career was plagued by injury was John Kennedy. The centre-back made just 28 league appearances for the Hoops across a decade in the first-team, at one stage spending three years on the sidelines after suffering a serious injury on international duty. Since retiring in 2009, he has been a scout and coach at Parkhead, where he remains today.

Stephen McManus

Stephen McManus remained at Celtic until 2010, leaving for Middlesbrough. He stayed at the Riverside Stadium for three years – twice joining Bristol City on loan during that time – before returning to Scotland to join Motherwell.

Lee Naylor

Lee Naylor featured fairly regularly before he left Celtic in 2010. He has been unattached since 2015, after spells with Cardiff City, Accrington Stanley and Derby County.

Like Naylor and McManus, Aiden McGeady left Celtic in 2010, making the surprising move to Spartak Moscow. After four years, he joined Everton. Though he struggled to establish himself at Goodison Park, he remained with the Toffees until this summer when he signed for Sunderland.

Paul Hartley

Paul Hartley was beginning his first full season at Celtic in 2007/08. He stayed until 2009, subsequently finishing his playing career with one season spells with Bristol City and Aberdeen. He has since managed Alloa and Dundee.

Massimo Donati

Massimo Donati was signed during the summer of 2007, staying until 2009 when he joined Bari. After seven years in Italy – with the likes of Palermo and Hellas Verona before another spell at Bari – he returned to Scotland to play for Hamilton in 2016.

Scott Brown

The one player in the Celtic team from that day who will be looking to start the Hoops’ season-opener this season is Scott Brown. If he stays fit, he will be looking to go past 300 league appearances for the club during the coming campaign.

Maciej Zurawski

Maciej Zurawski would leave Celtic in 2008, joining Larissa. He retired in 2011 after fairly short spells with Omonia Nicosia and Wisla Krakow.

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink stayed with Celtic until 2009, spending one year each with Hull City, Rapid Wien and PSV Eindhoven before retiring in 2012.
