Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to react after it was confirmed that Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold would miss EURO 2020.
The 22-year-old suffered a thigh injury during the 1-0 win over Austria on Wednesday, and was sent for a scan after the game.
Now, it has been confirmed that Alexander-Arnold suffered a tear to his quad, and will be sidelined for six weeks (BBC).
For this to happen just days before EURO 2020 is absolutely heartbreaking for the right-back, who worked so hard to make Gareth Southgate’s squad.
After hearing the news about Liverpool’s £75,000-a-week man, Gary Lineker hopped onto Twitter to react.

Heartbreak for Alexander-Arnold, but not the worst for Liverpool
From a selfish point of view, Liverpool can take some positives from this news, as the defender will return for pre-season rested and raring to go.
After playing 45 games this season, Alexander-Arnold’s body must be weary, which is perhaps why his quad gave up on him against Austria.
From Southgate’s point of view, he will surely be disappointed to lose a player of such immense quality.
However, if the Three Lions had to lose a key player in any area, you’d choose right-back, given the strength in depth in that department.
Southgate can still choose upon Reece James, Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier, all of whom are excellent players.
Hopefully, Alexander-Arnold can use this heartbreak as motivation to excel again for Liverpool next season, and make Southgate’s 2022 World Cup squad.
