Birmingham City fans can rest easy in already knowing that Garry Monk surely believes that they are underperforming this season.

Monk looks set to take over at Birmingham, after the Blues parted company with Steve Cotterill yesterday.

Birmingham are in serious danger of relegation, and they were beaten 2-1 by Nottingham Forest in their most recent outing.

The Blues are currently sat in the bottom three, with their form very poor.

But Monk has previously gone on record with high praise of Birmingham’s line-up.

When Monk was in charge at Leeds last season he guided the Whites to a 3-1 victory at St.Andrews, but after the game he was full of praise for Birmingham’s team.

He told Leeds’ official Twitter account: “Credit to Birmingham, that is the best I’ve seen them play for a long time, they are a very good team.

“I didn’t enjoy the first 60 minutes. Birmingham were excellent and it was tough for us.

“We were second best, especially in the first half. They will feel aggrieved that they did not capitalise on the chances they created.”

Birmingham have actually added to their squad since then, but neither Harry Redknapp or Cotterill have been able to get the best out of the players.

Monk will now be under pressure to spark an up-turn in Birmingham’s fortunes, with his first match in the dugout likely to come on Tuesday night, when they take on his former side Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.
