Nobody has spent more than Garry Monk at Middlesbrough this summer. Last year he was working under a different budget at Leeds United.
Garry Monk has spent more than £40 million this summer as he gears up for a promotion push with new side Middlesbrough.
They are the biggest spenders in the Championship, and an automatic promotion battle is expected.
Among the big names signed are Britt Assombalonga, Ashley Fletcher, and Jonny Howson.

Last summer Monk was scrapping for loan deals and bargain buys at Leeds United, and he admitted relishing managing on a budget.
He told the Yorkshire Evening Post last August: “I am sure that in two, maybe three years’ maximum, you will be seeing clubs coming down and spending £100m in a Championship season.
“It feels incredible to say that, but I honestly believe that will be the case in two or three years’ time. That makes things incredibly difficult, but I just see it as a challenge.”

Monk’s Leeds came agonisingly close to landing a play-off spot, eventually finishing in seventh place.
He could not agree terms on a contract extension and quit the club, later joining Middlesbrough.
Anything less than promotion will be seen as a failure if Monk cannot see it through, and he needs to show that he can see it through.
