Everton are set to sign Wayne Rooney from Manchester United in the near future.
With Everton on the verge of signing Wayne Rooney from Manchester United according to The Sun, Morgan Schneiderlin’s comments about the forward from January look particularly interesting.
Soon after Schneiderlin’s move to Everton, the French midfielder issued a fierce defence of his former teammate at Old Trafford.
Rooney was receiving a great deal of criticism for his performances for United at the time.
But the defensive midfielder said to the Daily Star: “Wayne just gets on with the job. He’s a legend. He’s a guy who everyone criticises when he has one or two bad games.
“But look at his stats. Look at what he’s done in his playing career – it’s just unbelievable.
“You have to respect that. But, of course, stories are made up about him every time.
“I know it hurts him because he wants to be recognised for what he does on the pitch.
“And what he does on the pitch is just amazing. I hope he’s going to break this record very soon. He’s someone you are very lucky to have in England.”
Rooney will have a chance to prove Schneiderlin right at Everton, if he does make a move to Goodison Park.
Rooney is likely to be handed an important role by Ronald Koeman, if he does move to the Toffees.
It is currently unclear whether Rooney will join Everton as a loan signing or on a permanent deal.
Rooney began his career with the Toffees, and his talent is still very well remembered on Merseyside.
Rooney played 77 times for Everton during his first spell at the club, scoring on 17 occasions.
