Gavin Newsom has detailed an unusual story involving Donald Trump, Ivanka Trump, and Tom Brady.
The account appears in Newsom’s memoir and centres on an interaction that followed Brady’s reported interest in dating Ivanka.
According to the book, the situation prompted a direct intervention from Donald Trump. The episode offers a glimpse into a private moment that later became a talking point.

Gavin Newsom recounts Tom Brady and Ivanka Trump story
In Young Man in a Hurry: A Memoir of Discovery, Gavin Newsom wrote: “When [Tom] Brady was single, the two of them were at a function and Brady expressed an interest in dating his [Donald Trump’s] daughter Ivanka.”
Newsom added: “The quarterback asked for her number, and Trump gave it to him. Brady called Ivanka and left a message, but she never called him back.
“Soon after, Brady related the snub to Trump, who then called his daughter.”
The passage suggests that Donald Trump personally followed up after learning that Brady’s outreach had gone unanswered.

Newsom continued: “I said, ‘Jesus, you know, Tom Brady. What the hell is going on? Why aren’t you calling this guy back?’ And she tells me, ‘Oh, I’m in love.’ ‘What do you mean you’re in love?’ And that’s when she mentions this guy.” Trump said, gesturing to his son-in-law.
“This guy right here. This Kushner guy. I said to Ivanka, ‘Not the guy whose father just got out of prison?’ ‘Yes, sir. I know I wasn’t your first choice.’ And then Trump turned to me and said, ‘Not even close, right, Gavin? Tom Brady. Tom Brady,'” Newsom concluded.
The anecdote frames Trump as openly favouring the prospect of Brady as a suitor, while Ivanka had already committed to Jared Kushner.
According to Newsom’s account, the moment blended humor, disbelief, and blunt commentary. The story has since resurfaced as interest around Brady’s post-playing life continues to grow.
